Ryota OPP
Ryota is the absolute « touche à tout » when it comes to music from being a highly respected buyer for a record shop, remixing and producing, behind the decks or on air, there is nothing left alone with him.
He became a buyer in 2008 of the Coconuts Disk Ekoda record shop in Tokyo, his all’time favorite and was trusted for his wide taste and multi genre knowledge.
His first release on a mix cd format called Garakuta, included all genres from afro beat to new wave cold funk or dub .
This « genreless » approach made a hit in the Japanese underground scene.
His first album was self released in 2011 from his own label Future life.
In 2015 his first 12 inch « Future life ep » made it to the UK and Nick Williams, Meda Fury label owner, prior to the release of his first LP « Pale Lux » at the end of 2016.
Ryota presented a soothing selection mix of japanese classic music artist Toru Takemistu put together for The Vinyl Factory.
In early 2018, he went on a European tour across Berlin-London-Paris. He featured with African Acid Is The Future in Berlin and he presented originality full of BPM and genre. That caught up with the enthusiasm of the audience, and it became an opportunity to further establish one’s own style.
Then he established the reissue label “Time Capsule” with his fellows in London. The first release of the label was released in September, curating a masterpiece album “Oasis” of 1978 by Federico Mon Arduini, pioneer of Italian electronic music Il Guardiano Del Faro.
In fall 2019 he released an album challenging not only club music but also instrumental ambient, experimental and meditation/wellness sounds titled “esoterica” from the double name of the label Meda Fury in London and Tastee T Productions in Tokyo.In 2020, Ryota released a MIX CD titled “ANTIQUE” from JET SET. It centered on primitive African music via Europe, and became a topic in Japanese scene.Also contributed his own track “Villege” to compilation “The Many” launched by Meda Fury to utilize their platform to donate for the chality.The compilation, which was attended by 42 artists, received widespread feedback, including being featured on World Wide FM by Gilles Peterson for donating 100% of its revenue to charity.
2011 年に自らのレーベル Future Life を立ち上げ 1st アルバム「Unknown Place」をリリース。2015 年には Nick Williams が運営する R&S を母体とした UK レーベル Meda Fury から初となる 12inch “Future Life EP” をリリース。
世界中の様々なラジオショーに出演、ロンドンの NTS では Sun Ra Auchestra の一員 Alex Ra のインタヴューとコラボレーションする。2015 年には IBIZA Global Radio にも登場。Red Bull Studio から中継された DISKOTOPIA Radio 、ロンドン Brilliant Corners から生中継された DJ Live Set 。また Ibiza ベースのインターネットラジオ、Pioneer DJ Radio から日本人初となる Mix の発信が行われた。国内では井の頭レンジャーズや Cat Boys への Remix 提供を行い、都内や地方などで精力的に DJ を行ったりしている。
2016 年暮れには、R&S / Meda Fury より 2LP のニューアルバム “PALE LUX” をリリース。Phonica Records の 2016 年間アルバムチャートにノミネートされ Nick The Record もレコメンドする。また BBC の 6 Music Recommends で番組冒頭からアルバムより “Esa Tsubian” がプレイされる。
2017 年には Vinyl Factory に武満徹氏の楽曲のみで構成された MIX を提供。またレーベルメイトでもある Pletnev の作品 “St. Bones EP” にリミキサーとして参加。イタリアのレーベル Le Temps Perdu からリリースされる。
2018 年初頭は Berlin – London – Paris を渡るヨーロッパツアーを敢行。 Berlin では African Acid Is The Future と共演。 Paris では Peeps’ Niche と共演。Rinse France にも出演する。
ロンドンの友人達と再発レーベル Time Capsule を設立。レーベル第 1 弾のリリースとしてイタリア電子音楽のパイオニア Il Guardiano Del Faro こと Federico Mon Arduini による 1978 年の傑作アルバム “Oasis” のキュレーションを手掛けた。
2019 年 には “Pale Lux” に続く新作アルバム “esoterica” をリリース。Disco/House の枠を超えて東欧やアジア、アフリカや南米の民族音楽をシュミレートしミュージシャン Kaeko Kimura、Nicolas Jolio の協力を得て世界中に発信された。
2020 年には JET SET よりノベルティー企画の MIX CD “ANTIQUE” を発表。ヨーロッパ経由のアフリカンミュージックを中心としたプリミティブな音楽旅行として話題を提供した。また所属するレーベルの Meda Fury より人種差別問題解決のため自分達が持つプラットフォームを活用する、として立ち上げられたプロジェクト “The Many” に楽曲である “Village” を提供。42 人のアーティストが参加したコンピレーションは収益の 100% を慈善団体へ寄付するとして Giles Peterson などに World Wide FM で取り上げられるなど幅広い反響を呼んだ。
